Based on his academic and professional experiences in the Middle East and South Asia, he believes that sustainability is of global relevance, and thus requires the international cooperation of science, politics, business, and society. In his research, he looks at sustainability research with a focus on scientific and societal impact assessment.
Before joining the professorship as a junior researcher, Omar worked at the Competence Center for Environment and Sustainability (CCES) of the ETH Domain. Complementary to his position at the professorship, Omar works as project manager at the sustainability office of ETH Zurich (ETH Sustainability), directly reporting to the President of ETH Zurich.
Omar is an alumnus of the German National Academic Foundation and of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung.

- Assessing the impact of publicly funded research programmes with a focus on environment and sustainabilty research
